General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader said that BNP is continuously spreading false propaganda about electricity and energy. It is nothing but BNP’s own failure and Dhaka’s attempt.
The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges said these things in a statement given to the media on Tuesday. Obaidul Quader said, BNP leaders want to forget their past easily, but the people remember it. During their regime, load shedding was going on for 13-14 hours a day in the country. During their time the country was plunged in darkness.
General Secretary of Awami League said, ‘They (BNP) handed over the country’s precious mineral resources to foreign masters to come to power. He cheated the nation by erecting poles only in the name of electricity supply. BNP kept the whole country in darkness while keeping the alternative power center Hawa Bhavan and Khoab Bhavan illuminated.
The road transport minister said, “Sheikh Hasina has left behind those dark times and gifted the people of Bangladesh with bright Bangladesh.” In addition to achieving self-sufficiency in electricity, he has memorialized unprecedented success in all socio-economic fields, which has been appreciated in the World Assembly.
The Bridge Minister said that the Sheikh Hasina government has shown revolutionary success in the power and energy sector. When the Bangladesh Awami League came to power with a landslide victory in the elections held in December 2008, the per capita electricity generation in the country was 220 KW, which currently stands at 560 KW. At the beginning of 2009, only 47 percent of the total population was covered by electricity in the country. Due to the Awami League being in power under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina, hundred percent of people in the country have come under electricity facilities.
Obaidul Quader said that at the beginning of 2009, electricity production in the country was 3 thousand 267 megawatts. Currently, the power supply capacity has increased to 25 thousand 566 MW. Not only that, at the beginning of 2009 the number of electricity customers in the country was 1 crore 8 lakh. By April 2022, the number of subscribers has reached 4 crore 27 lakh. BNP is jealous of this success of the government and is indulging in shameless lies and propaganda as always.
General Secretary of Awami League said that those who talk about corruption in the power sector are actually sponsors of corruption. It would not have been possible to raise the power generation to 25 thousand 566 megawatts without the proper policies and efficient management of the government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Industrialization would not have developed. Economic prosperity and growth would not have happened. Sheikh Hasina’s government has been able to ensure energy security for the country by stopping BNP’s rampant corruption and looting. This government has delivered electricity to every house in the country.

The developed countries of the world are also struggling due to the excessive increase in the price of energy in the world market. Many countries have already adopted electricity and energy saving policies.
